This is a technical restriction and will \n not change.\n\n- Git Bash launched through the Explorer shell extension does not have the \n git icon in its taskbar. This is a technical restriction and will not \n change.\n\n- git send-mail does not work properly (Issue 27).\n\n- curl uses $HOME/_netrc instead of $HOME/.netrc.\n\n- If you want to specify a different location for --upload-pack, you have \n to start the absolute path with two slashes. Otherwise MSys will mangle \n the path.\n\n- git and bash have serious problems with non-ASCII file names (Issue 80, \n 108, 149, 159, 188).\n\n- If configured to use plink, you will have to connect with putty first, \n as you cannot accept the host key due to the console window being \n blocked (Issue 96).\n\n- MinGW does not support IPv6 yet (Issue 182).\n\n- When run from cmd.exe instead of Git Bash, some characters seem to be \n \"swallowed\" from Git's output (Issue 192).\n\n- There are a few issues with ssh hanging (Issue 197), permission denied \n on renaming pack files (mentioned in Issue 194), and spurious write \n errors during rebase (Issue 200) that seem not to be reproducible on \n most computers.\n\nChanges since Git-1.6.2-preview20090308 \n\nNew Features \n\n- Comes with official git 1.6.2.1.\n\n- A portable application is shipped in addition to the installer (Issue \n 195).\n\n- Comes with a Windows-specific mmap() implementation (Issue 198).\n\nBugfixes \n\n- ANSI control characters are no longer shown verbatim (Issue 124).\n\n- Temporary files are created respecting core.autocrlf (Issue 177).\n\n- The Git Bash prompt is colorful again (Issue 199).\n\n- Fixed crash when hardlinking during a clone failed (Issue 204). \n\n- An infinite loop was fixed in git-gui (Issue 205). \n\n- The ssh protocol is always used with plink.exe (Issue 209). \n\n- More vim files are shipped now, so that syntax highlighting works. \n\nCiao,\nDscho\n"},{"id":"108949","messageId":"20090322225315.GC22428@sigill.intra.peff.net","threadId":"18209","inReplyTo":"alpine.DEB.1.00.0903222149330.10279@pacific.mpi-cbg.de","subject":"Re: Git for Windows 1.6.2.1-preview20090322","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2009-03-22T22:53:15Z","receivedAt":"2009-03-22T22:53:15Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Sun, Mar 22, 2009 at 10:17:23PM +0100, Johannes Schindelin wrote:\n\n> - Some commands are not yet supported on Windows and excluded from the \n> installation; namely: git archimport, git cvsexportcommit, git \n> cvsimport, git cvsserver, git filter-branch, git instaweb, git \n> send-email, git shell.\n\nA few people have asked about filter-branch on Windows recently; JSixt\nindicated that it works from his built version:\n\n http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/112103\n\nIs it time to include it?\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"108959","messageId":"alpine.DEB.1.00.0903230015020.10279@pacific.mpi-cbg.de","threadId":"18209","inReplyTo":"20090322225315.GC22428@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: Git for Windows 1.6.2.1-preview20090322","fromName":"Johannes Schindelin","fromEmail":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","sentAt":"2009-03-22T23:25:57Z","receivedAt":"2009-03-22T23:25:57Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/127790?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nOn Sun, 22 Mar 2009, Jeff King wrote:\n\n> On Sun, Mar 22, 2009 at 10:17:23PM +0100, Johannes Schindelin wrote:\n> \n> > - Some commands are not yet supported on Windows and excluded from the \n> > installation; namely: git archimport, git cvsexportcommit, git \n> > cvsimport, git cvsserver, git filter-branch, git instaweb, git \n> > send-email, git shell.\n> \n> A few people have asked about filter-branch on Windows recently;\n\nI am not aware of any.
