Maybe it is time to remove\nthe support, instead of carrying the deprecated command forever? Most notably, it could update the files under refs/ which\n holds the object name of the topmost commits before uploading the\n files in objects/ - the downloader would obtain head commit object\n name while that object itself is still not available in the\n repository.\"\n\nI only thought about git itself uploading into and downloading from the\nrepository with push and fetch, respectively. And wondered where the\nproblem with the order of refs and objects was. But I just realized, it\ncan of course be uploaded with plain rsync, too.\n\n> It has been deprecated for too long a time. Maybe it is time to remove\n> the support, instead of carrying the deprecated command forever? Is that\n> the problem you are talking about?\n\nYes, this is the answer to my question. I thought maybe it's not\ndeprecated anymore, because the only place where it is called so, is\ngitcore-tutorial.\n"},{"id":"98421","messageId":"20081220081511.GA28212@glandium.org","threadId":"16776","inReplyTo":"7vljuei2xw.fsf@gitster.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: rsync deprecated?","fromName":"Mike Hommey","fromEmail":"mh@glandium.org","sentAt":"2008-12-20T08:15:11Z","receivedAt":"2008-12-20T08:15:11Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"mh@glandium.org","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/1038527?v=4"},"body":"On Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:20:59PM -0800, Junio C Hamano wrote:\n> Markus Heidelberg <markus.heidelberg@web.de> writes:\n> \n> > in the \"Merging external work\" section of the gitcore-tutorial it is\n> > stated that the rsync transport is deprecated. I reported\nthis actually only shortly before Junio made this comment. Apparently\nthe code to copy across HEAD is missing from the rsync code, although\nit is present for HTTP code.\n\nIs there a bug tracking tool that git uses?
