Part of that is actually due to \nwork done after the deadline, unfortunately for me :-)  Anyway, I am \ndefinitely interested in continuing to work on git (and GitTorrent) as \nit is the VCS I use personally.  It is, however, the start of the \nsemester here and I am currently focusing on that and job searching as \nthis is my last semester.\n\nI had a really good experience working with the git community over the \npast few months.  It was really cool to see very talented people working \ntogether.  It was a little intimidating too.  Another thing I learned \nabout was the 'O' in OSS, or being 'Open' about development.  This is a \ncompletely different paradigm for me, as all of my previous experience \nis personal development or 'corporate' development (things done at \nwork), neither of which required telling anybody about anything until \ncompletion.  Regular status updates that were requested during the \nsecond half made that much more clear and, in fact, facilitated my \nunderstanding in this area.\n\nSo, thank you all again, and I hope to continue to work with you in the \nfuture.\n\nJoshua Roys\n"},{"id":"89800","messageId":"20080904223653.GA15170@leksak.fem-net","threadId":"15376","inReplyTo":"200809042315.58898.jnareb@gmail.com","subject":"Re: [GSoC] Git projects for Google Summer of Code 2008 final evaluation","fromName":"Stephan Beyer","fromEmail":"s-beyer@gmx.net","sentAt":"2008-09-04T22:36:53Z","receivedAt":"2008-09-04T22:36:53Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"s-beyer@gmx.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/143889?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nmy reply belongs to:\n> 6. git-sequencer\n> \n> Student: Stephan Beyer\n> Mentor: Christian Couder, Daniel Barkalow\n\nJakub Narebski wrote:\n[...]\n> So students and mentors, please write what do you think current status \n> of project is: is it done, is it ready, is it perhaps already merged \n> in, or can be merged in at any time.\n\nIt is done, but not ready.\n\nThis means, we, my mentors and I, are currently still reviewing the code.\nBut I am pinched for time until the end of September due to an important\nexam. I also\nconsider it successful, for sake of my experience too!\n\nI was hoping to do some optional task after push GUI (2nd part of GSoC),\nbut instead I was designing/polishing the new GUI and existing clone\nwizard. We are an email based community.\nStudents should be involved by email, not by blogs.  If we were\nthe Ruby community (which near as I can tell is blog based) then\nblogging might make more sense.  We're not.  We're an offshoot of\nthe Linux community, which is very much email-centric.\n\n> Blogging is nice for those who want to follow the progress of a project, \n> but do not want to get involved.  In this case, it is even better than \n> having the people discuss the issues of the project openly, as reading a \n> blog does not require constant monitoring like the list does.\n> \n> However, blogging costs time.\n\nExactly.  Email also costs time, but typically we don't see\ntraffic on the list that is just broadcasting something pointless.\nIn general people only start a topic if there is going to be\nworthwhile discussion attached to it, and often that results in a\nuseful patch being applied at some point in the future.  IOW that\ntime for email is just necessary in the course of development,\nso it isn't wasted.\n\nIf the community of semi-interested people really wants blogs to\nread, RSS scrape a news feed like Gmane.  Ohloh already has an\nRSS feed defined around the emails sent to git ML with the subject\n\"[ANNOUNCE]\".\n\nI however prefer email, and dislike blogging, so I'll continue\nto use the git ML in the future, and so will any student I mentor\nin any potential future GSoC program.  FWIW I blogged here at new\nday-job on company internal blog for about a half day before I gave\nup and said \"damn, that really is stupid\".\n\n-- \nShawn.\n"}]}
