I have been guessing\n(without even bothering to confirm) that even for FC, distro people do not\nuse the RPM packages I have at kernel.org, but they build and distribute\ntheir own to their users.  I could stop generating these RPMs, in other\nwords, but I've been doing this forever and they are still produced as\ncourtesy, even though I am not a FC user myself.\n\nYou could send a preconfigured CentOS 5.2 box to me and ask me to produce\nyet another set of RPMs.  The release procedure already takes long enough\ntime out of my git day, however, and I doubt I can afford the time to do\nso in practice, without reducing the time I spend on other git activities\nsuch as reviewing and accepting changes from others or writing patches\nmyself.\n\nPeople on other platforms like Debian, Macintosh, and Windows (Cygwin and\nMsys) generate their own packages from the official tarballs and\ndistribute the result to help other users on their platforms.  Perhaps you\nand other CentOS users can get together and do the same to help each\nother?  That would be a great help to the community.\n\nThanks.\n"},{"id":"82720","messageId":"loom.20080709T132329-674@post.gmane.org","threadId":"14350","inReplyTo":"49523.216.185.71.22.1215539200.squirrel@webmail.harte-lyne.ca","subject":"Re: GiT and CentOS 5.2","fromName":"David Voit","fromEmail":"david.voit@gmail.com","sentAt":"2008-07-09T13:25:07Z","receivedAt":"2008-07-09T13:25:07Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"david.voit@gmail.com","avatar":null},"body":"Hi all,\n\nJust use the EPEL packages:\nhttp://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories?action=show&redirect=Repositories\n\nMaybe not alwaya the newest version, but it works.\n\nDavid\n"},{"id":"82814","messageId":"935ead450807100732r2d992483x5b1384bf0eb14436@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"14350","inReplyTo":"loom.20080709T132329-674@post.gmane.org","subject":"Re: GiT and CentOS 5.2","fromName":"Jeffrey Ollie","fromEmail":"jeff@ocjtech.us","sentAt":"2008-07-10T14:32:42Z","receivedAt":"2008-07-10T14:32:42Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jeff@ocjtech.us","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/95918a1992f277a811c471ae7275f7e4c9d1a2e517ad290bd6aa93b97e8d34f3?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"On Wed, Jul 9, 2008 at 8:25 AM, David Voit <david.voit@gmail.com> wrote:\n>\n> Just use the EPEL packages:\n> http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories?action=show&redirect=Repositories\n>\n> Maybe not alwaya the newest version, but it works.\n\nHere's a better link for EPEL information:\n\nhttps://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL\n\nJeff\n"}]}
