If they do, they can\nfollow the usaual syntax. So beginners don't have to know the new\nsyntax.\n\nBut for advanced users, the config file can be edited freely with more\nfree syntax. With current syntax, 'submodule' will be repeated tons\nof times when having tons of submoudles. Why not make life much easier\nfor advanced users in such case?\n\n\n\n-- \nPing Yin\n"},{"id":"72329","messageId":"7vhcf4ammj.fsf@gitster.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"12685","inReplyTo":"46dff0320803171740of822d02medc5911e0d056eb4@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Should 'git config' support key with dot such as 'a.b'","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2008-03-18T00:42:28Z","receivedAt":"2008-03-18T00:42:28Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"\"Ping Yin\" <pkufranky@gmail.com> writes:\n\n> On Fri, Mar 14, 2008 at 6:39 PM, Johannes Schindelin\n> <Johannes.Schindelin@gmx.de> wrote:\n>> Hi,\n>>\n>>\n>>\n>> On Fri, 14 Mar 2008, Ping Yin wrote:\n>>\n>> > I find it is so annoying to write submodule definition as follows\n>> > (yeah, only url, without path)\n>> >\n>> > ------------------------------\n>> > [submodule 'crawler']\n>> > url = url1\n>> > [submodule 'search']\n>> > url = url2\n>> > ------------------------------\n>> >\n>> > I think the following form is more simple\n>> > ---------------------------------\n>> > [submodule]\n>> > crawler.url = url1\n>> > search.url = url2\n>> > ---------------------------------\n>> >\n>> > So, could we support such simpler form?\n>>\n>> I don't like it at all.
