The real scripts I use write\nauthor, email and log message to a file in the env-filter hook,\ncall an editor where they can be arbitrarily changed, and then\nthe rest of the env-filter and msg-filter hooks parse the text\nfile back into the shell variables.\n\nSo I am changing the ident of existing commits (postprocessing\na non-git tree conversion).\n\nThe problem is that some editors clear the terminal window\n(in other words, they are \"full-screen\"), so I did not get to\nsee the filter-branch error message at all because the next\neditor invocation just popped in.\n\nMost importantly, git-filter-branch should STOP when it detects\na problem, not try rewriting the next commit.\n"}]}
