I think it is about to create a tag object having another\nauthor different from committer.\n\nIn such case, and looking at builtin-commit.c, I see that the code needed\ncould came from the function determine_author_info(), just the part using\nforce_author variable, to be added in the create_tag() function from\nbuiltin-tag.c.\n\nThe only thing I don't know is if this should be different from\ngit-commit in which\nboth \"author\" and \"committer\" fields are supplied and only \"author\" can be\nchanged this way, preserving the committer. In git-tag, only the committer is\nincluded in the tag object, written as the \"tagger\".\n\nPlease, correct me if I'm wrong.\n\nRegards.\nCarlos.\n"},{"id":"66999","messageId":"alpine.LSU.1.00.0801312345520.23907@racer.site","threadId":"11807","inReplyTo":"1b46aba20801311449l774a6213kc33c49c0682c0228@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Wishlist: Please add --author to git-tag","fromName":"Johannes Schindelin","fromEmail":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","sentAt":"2008-01-31T23:48:12Z","receivedAt":"2008-01-31T23:48:12Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/127790?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nOn Thu, 31 Jan 2008, Carlos Rica wrote:\n\n> On Jan 31, 2008 8:35 PM, Pierre Habouzit <madcoder@debian.org> wrote:\n> > On Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 05:27:31PM +0000, Daniel Baumann wrote:\n> >\n> > > git commit supports --author to overwrite the author information on \n> > > a particular commit; it would be nice if git tag would offer the \n> > > same.\n> >\n> > Meanwhile,\n> >\n> > GIT_AUTHOR_NAME=\"John Doe\" GIT_AUTHOR_EMAIL=luser@example.com git tag\n> \n> That didn't work for me,\n\nHey jasam, good to see you again.\n\nI think that you have to use \"-s\" or \"-a\" for the author information to \ntake effect (IOW a lightweight tag will not pick it up, since it is only a \n41-byte file, and does not change the object database).\n\nCiao,\nDscho\n"},{"id":"67033","messageId":"1b46aba20802010648j6f305cbve55d50d1ead74a73@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"11807","inReplyTo":"alpine.LSU.1.00.0801312345520.23907@racer.site","subject":"Re: Wishlist: Please add --author to git-tag","fromName":"Carlos Rica","fromEmail":"jasampler@gmail.com","sentAt":"2008-02-01T14:48:42Z","receivedAt":"2008-02-01T14:48:42Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jasampler@gmail.com","avatar":null},"body":"On Feb 1, 2008 12:48 AM, Johannes Schindelin <Johannes.Schindelin@gmx.de> wrote:\n> Hi,\n>\n> On Thu, 31 Jan 2008, Carlos Rica wrote:\n>\n> > On Jan 31, 2008 8:35 PM, Pierre Habouzit <madcoder@debian.org> wrote:\n> > > On Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 05:27:31PM +0000, Daniel Baumann wrote:\n> > >\n> > > > git commit supports --author to overwrite the author information on\n> > > > a particular commit; it would be nice if git tag would offer the\n> > > > same.\n> > >\n> > > Meanwhile,\n> > >\n> > > GIT_AUTHOR_NAME=\"John Doe\" GIT_AUTHOR_EMAIL=luser@example.com git tag\n> >\n> > That didn't work for me,\n>\n> Hey jasam, good to see you again.\n>\n> I think that you have to use \"-s\" or \"-a\" for the author information to\n> take effect (IOW a lightweight tag will not pick it up, since it is only a\n> 41-byte file, and does not change the object database).\n\nThis way it doesn't work for me either. You know, the tag object has\nonly a \"tagger\", who is always the committer. Currently, I'm inspecting\nthe resulting object using \"git cat-file tag t\".
