I can see the utility of the committer adding\nthis, as a record of who committed it, but if you wrote a patch and are\nsubmitting it to the list, then you've presumably \"signed off\", haven't\nyou? Or is there some subtle distinction between exploratory patches and\n\"real\" patches being made?\n\nSecond, it seems like commentary about a patch can be placed after the\n\"---\" but before the \"diff --git\" lines. Is that correct? Is that\naccepted practice? It seems a little backwards to have the commit\nmessage first, then the commentary. Am I correct in assuming that\ngit-apply ignores anything between those two lines, including the diff\nstat, and so that's the reason people put it there?\n\nThanks,\n\n-- \nWilliam <wmorgan-git@masanjin.net>\n"},{"id":"65290","messageId":"7vmyr9nrsc.fsf@gitster.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"11612","inReplyTo":"1200270370-sup-4560@south","subject":"Re: format-patch usage","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2008-01-14T01:02:11Z","receivedAt":"2008-01-14T01:02:11Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"William Morgan <wmorgan-git@masanjin.net> writes:\n\n> Two questions from a git neophyte about using format-patch:\n\nBoth come from the established kernel Documentation/SubmittingPatches\nconvention.\n"}]}
